Welcome back to my sustainable fashion posts! For those of you who haven't read my previous posts on sustainable fashion, go ahead and check them out! So I decided to share some sustainable and zero waste practices that really inspire me and hopefully inspire you too. Enjoy!

What is zero waste fashion? Many designers today are taking the future of the planet into their own hands to reduce the impact that fashion has on the earth. Through the process of creating a garment, you start with the design aspect. One way that designers are being conscious with designing is designing for longevity. Making sure that these garments are timeless and are well- made so they can be used for years and years to come. Moving to pattern making, these designers and pattern makers are using geometric shapes in order to cut down on paper waste and also cut down on the waste of fabric when cutting the pieces out. Another way they are preventing wasted fabrics is using scraps from other factories. A lot of these companies will go and get the scraps before they are sent to a landfill. These are just a few ways that these designers are making a difference and stopping this wasteful production.

This designer known as “Zero-waste Daniel,” creates new textile fabrics by sewing scraps, of irregular shapes and sizes, back together. Over 200 billion pounds textiles are thrown away every year. This company will go to a cutting room and use the fabric scraps that they have. Each Garment that is made uses about one pound of “rescued” material. Everything that is made is manufactured in his store to avoid dangerous and unfair labor conditions. His story is very inspiring and I hope y'all enjoy this videos much as I did!

This video is a really great explanation of how converting to zero-waste can have a huge impact on our planet in just a few simple steps! Many customers end up unsatisfied with their purchases due to durability and loss of personal connection with the garment. The design stage determines 80% of the garments environmental impact. To be environmentally cautious there a few things to consider. The first being classic design and material quality. Second is to set standards for the suppliers to meet and follow. Using the correct dyes and finishes for the textiles will prevent mistakes that result in waste. Another important aspect is educating the customers on how to treat the garment, such as using care labels. Just these few steps can reduce the impact that fast fashion is having and create quality clothing that people will keep for the years to come.

I wanted to share with y'all my first sustainable fashion mood board and design! I drew inspiration from the use of scraps, approaching patterns and using every piece of fabric and creating timeless pieces . A lot of my personal style and influence comes from the media and from celebrities that embrace bold fashion that is also classic. Enjoy!
